Oral / poster submission

The Organizing Committee of the 7th International Self Determination Theory Conference 2019 invites you to submit only abstracts for poster presentations. Each presenter will be allowed to give only one research paper or poster presentation, but he/she could be a co-author on more than one abstract. All abstracts must be submitted in English. All presentations must be given in English.
By submitting an abstract each presenter agrees to follow the General rules.

Please note the extended deadline for poster abstract submision: March  2019.
Submission for paper/oral- and symposium abstracts is closed!!!!!

1. Presentation formats

Paper presentation (oral) sessions: these sessions will include a group of talks within a theme by individual participants who have completed their PhD.
Who can be a presenter: research Paper presentations are meant for senior researchers, i.e. researchers who have completed their PhD. Students pursuing their PhD are directed to kindly submit their abstracts for poster presentations.
Poster sessions: these sessions will include presentations by students pursuing their PhD, Master or Bachelor. Posters will be sorted by theme. Each poster will be on display for 1 full day of the conference and include a dedicated poster session.
Who can be a presenter: research Poster presentation are meant for students pursuing their PhD, Master or Bachelor.

Presentation in other types of sessions will strictly be by invitation.

During the submission process the submitting author will be asked to indicate the topic for his/her abstract from the following list:

2.10 Technology

The author can choose only one category, but more topics if relevant. The Scientific Committee will decide the final topic for the abstract and club the presentation together with other presentations from the same topic to create a themed session during the conference.

3. Guidelines for abstracts

Only abstracts following the guidelines will be accepted.

What details are required while submitting the abstract and further specifications:

  • Please use Times New Roman 11 font and avoid using other fonts for special characters.
  • Abstract title (limited to a maximum of 200 characters). Do NOT use CAPITAL letters for the title.
  • Details of the main author: family name, initial(s), institute, city, country, and e-mail and postal address.
  • Details of all co-authors: family name, initial(s), institute, city, country.
  • Category and topic for classification of the abstract.
  • Abstract Structure: Authors are free to use their own structure for the abstract with or without specific sub-headings. As a suggestion the structure could be the following:
    • Introduction
    • Methods
    • Results
    • Discussion & Conclusion
  • Word Count: ≤400 words (excluding the title, authors, affiliations, including references)
  • References: Maximum 2.
  • During submission of the abstract you will be asked to indicate if you prefer to present your work on the Applied Day, 23rd May 2019.

4. Process of submission

  • Please note the extended deadline of January 11, 2018. Abstracts arriving after this date will not be accepted.
  • You can work online on your abstract, save the data and come back to finish it later. However, once you have clicked on the ‘submit’ button, it is no longer possible to edit the information you have entered. The receipt of your abstract will be confirmed by email.
  • Abstracts should be submitted online via the online submission form provided below. Mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk (*).

5. Review process and criteria

The Scientific Committee will first review the abstracts of participants who submitted their abstract before November 30, 2018 and send them a decision by December 21, 2018. The second review will take place in January and participants who submitted their abstract after November 30, 2018 will receive a decision by February 13, 2019 in order to allow presenters sufficient time to register for the conference and make travel arrangements. All notifications will be sent to the e-mail address provided during the abstract submission process.

6. Registration

All accepted presenters must register for the conference before the deadline of the early registration February 28, 2019. Presenters not registered by this date will not be included in the scientific program.

7. Dissemination of abstracts

All accepted abstracts will be published on the conference website in the conference abstract book and will be available through a digital app during the conference.

8. Cancellation Policy

Please do not submit an abstract if you are not confident that you will be able to attend the conference and make the presentation. If your presentation has been accepted but extenuating circumstances prevent your attendance, we ask that you attempt to find another individual to make the presentation and notify us of this change as soon as possible at events@vumc.nl. If cancellation becomes absolutely unavoidable, please contact us immediately at the aforementioned email address so we can remove your presentation from the conference program.

9. General rules

Abstract submission indicates acceptance of and compliance with the rules outlined below:
  • Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment by the presenting author(s) to attend the conference and present the findings, i.e., that each one of the proposed participants has given his/her consent for the proposal and is committed to participate. If accepted, the presenting author(s) is required to pay all costs associated with the conference.
  • All authors have consented to be included as co-authors, have read and approved the abstract and its contents, and agree with the results stated, that all authors are acknowledged of and agree with the abstract submission rules, and permit the abstract, if accepted, to be published in the conference abstract book and on the conference website as submitted.
  • The submitting author of an abstract for oral or poster presentation is considered to be the presenting author.
  • Abstracts must be unbiased and conflicts of interest shall be disclosed. Papers that are written in a manner that promotes a company, service, or product will not be considered.
